The pattern of the lampshade fabric is the essence of this lamp. It is a design that in English is called 'chinoiserie', a style that refers to the culture and aesthetics of the Far East, mainly China. Seventeenth-century Europe was enthralled by the Chinese aesthetic; it was synonymous with luxury and excellent taste for Europeans.

This particular design has a strong hint of modernity, not only in the lines, but also in the fresh, at times blue colour. At first glance, it is more reminiscent of a Mediterranean climate than a Far Eastern one!
